Today there are more ways than ever to use your photographs. The advent of digital photography and personal computers has opened up a host of options. Some of these options, like book publishing, were previously available only to established photographers with the credentials to approach publishing corporations. Now, however, just about anyone can self-publish a book of their photos.
Jones Photo is one of several online companies that will allow you to lay out your own book and order just one or two copies. Before the digital age, books were done on an offset press that required a run of at least a few hundred to make them cost effective. New digital presses now make it economically feasible to do single copy books. Jones offers three size options through our print partner FujiFilm. Templates allow you to drag and drop your photos onto each page for a truly custom look. Quality glossy paper means the books look as good or better than most professional books. If you would like to see samples, feel free to stop by either of our Tucson locations.
The books offered by Jones Photo make great gifts or personal photo albums. I have been to Europe four times and each time I ordered one of our books to serve as my trip album. If you are more serious and aspire to self-publish a book for sale, you will need to find a traditional book printer. With a computer and publishing software, you can design an entire book of text and photography on your own. If you can afford a professional designer that is preferable. If not, it is possible to do everything solo and send the file to the print shop. I did this myself, producing a book called Zoos of the Southwest. Was it a lot of work? Yes, it was. Will I make any money on it? No, I will not. It is, however, personally satisfying to have a goal for your photography and to produce a tangible result. Whether you want to write a book for the public or produce a personal album, it is now easier than ever.
